FREE: Sunday with the Symphony

By PAM HARBAUGH

Read, listen, contribute and possibly get a free ticket to a concert…it’s yours for the participating in the Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s two upcoming Barnes & Noble Bookfair events.

Here’s the deal: Maestro Christopher Confessore, conductor and music director of the BSO, will bring some of his musicians with him to Barnes & Noble Booksellers for a concert 3 p.m. this Sunday in the West Melbourne store and 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 in the Merritt Island store.

You’ll get to meet the Maestro and listen to him talk about the BSO’s 2015-2016 season. You can also meet composer Mark Piszczek, whose work, “Songs from the Gulf of Sorrows” will be performed as a world premiere on opening night, Oct. 24.

Wait…there’s more. The first 50 guests and are at least 18 years old, at each event, will receive a voucher for one complimentary ticket to the subscription concert of their choice.

No!…Yes !! and there’s even more…Beginning the day of the concert and for five days following, the hosting Barnes & Noble store will contribute a percentage of every sale to the BSO. But, you MUST USE a voucher to get that contribution. You can get vouchers by going to www.BrevardSymphony.com or by going to www.bn.com/bookfairs. .

There are no tickets necessary and admission is free. The store capacity is limited, of course, so be sure to get there early.

SIDE O’ GRITS: The BSO free performances will be 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1955 W. New Haven Ave., West Melbourne; and 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 780 E. Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island. Call 321.242.2024 or visit www.BrevardSymphony.com.
