SPANISH GUITAR to Highlight BSO Concert

By PAM HARBAUGH

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra will perform a matinee and evening concert of Spanish music on Saturday at the King Center.

Aptly titled BSOlé, the program will feature renowned Spanish guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas performing Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez.”

Sainz Villegas has been hailed by The New York Times as having “virtuosic playing characterized by irresistible exuberance.” He was born in La Rioja, Spain and at the age of 15 won the Andrés Segovia Award. From Melbourne, he will fly to New York City to perform at the 92Y, then off to Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

Also on the program will be Georges Bizet’s “Carmen Suite” and Manuel de Falla’s “The Three-Cornered Hat.” The orchestra will be led by Maestro Christopher Confessore who will present information about the concert before the curtain.

The concerts begin at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the King Center, 3865 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne. Tickets start at $25. Call 321-242-2219 or visit KingCenter.com or BrevardSymphony.com.
